Hello I broke my fibula about 2 months ago. I am 7 weeks post opp. I had a plate and 5 screws put on my fibula. It was a pretty clean break, however i had torn some ligaments. I am in a walking boot and full weight bearing. I have not yet started physical therapy due to the cost. I was hoping for a few tips. I am not feeling very much pain mostly stiffness in my ankle and tingling in my foot. I was wondering if there are risks of starting some at home physical therapy? and if there are risks of the screws and plate being effected by home therapy? I reviewed the videos on the site, is it safe for me to start these on my own? Thank you :)

Hi Christie,
I would recommend you contact your surgeon to see when it would be appropriate for you to begin performing exercises for your ankle. Given the time since the surgery, I am thinking your surgeon should be OK with it. Please double check. For my patients who have a condition similiar to yours, I would have them begin with beginner level exercises such as ankle pumps, AROM ankle exericses, PROM ankle exericses, isometric ankle strengthening, etc. I would than progress my patient as tolerated to more advanced and closed chain exericses.
