Our user asked: "Had surgery on 8/19 to repair tendon severed in accident. Have had PT for about two months. I still have some foot slap and cannot walk on heel.. My question is twofold: Is this due to insufficient strength of the muscle or lack or ROM... Secondly, what is the best technique to strengthen.. Thank you"
Ask a PT Response: "How much AROM ankle dorsiflexion to you have? Foot drop is commonly associated with weakness or neuro issues. Therefore, strengthening is an important part of the plan of care in order to achieve normal gait. There are products such as the Walk Aide which may help address this problem for patients that have neuro issues: http://www.walkaide.com/en-US/Pages/default.aspx.
Given your type of injury, I don't know if this may be appropriate for you. It would probably be best to have discussion with your PT in regards to this and for him or her to consider e-stim to help with strengthening."
