   Hoping someone can help shed some light.  I am hearing differening opinions on billing in the acute care setting.

Are you able to bill for one unit if you have completed the chart review, talked with the nurse/MD (basically completed all the legwork) but then are unable to complete the eval either due to testing or patient compliance? Some therapists are billing one unit for porductivity.  Is this correct?

If the OT and PT complete the evaluation together, can each discipline bill for the same time.  Example, both disciplines are with the patient for the same hour.  Can each bill for 60 minutes or should each bill for 30 minutes?

	It depends... There are different rules for different states. I would call the state board for the state you practice in and ask them specifically. A PT Eval is usually an untimed procedure, and it makes no difference if OT and PT Eval the pt. during the same block of time. If a treatment is included though, you cannot charge a similar procedure at the same time as OT. So, for example OT co-tx(s) w/ PT and first 15 minutes is a therapeutic activity w/ OT, then 8 minutes during the session is dedicated to transfer training w/ PT. The PT and the OT must make sure the charge is not the same for the same time (transfer training could be considered a "therapeutic activity" charge) and it must be clearly noted that PT worked with the patient from time X to time y and similarly for OT.
