Our user asked: "Hi, I work in health care and walk patients in the hospital often. The patients tend to walk at a much slower pace than my normal walking speed, and when I walk at their speed, my knee tends to click or catch. I do not recall any injury to the knee, and it isn't actually painful, but it is annoying and I'm afraid of causing damage to the knee as this is my job. I was wondering if a knee brace would be beneficial to wear during working hours? I am in my 20's and fairly fit, so I don't think my weight or lack of strength has much to do with the issue. Thanks"
Ask a PT Response: "Given what your age is and what you have written, I would probably not be too concern with the clicking unless you are having pain. Literature does not give a definitive reason to why pain free popping and clicking in the knees occurs with movement. Perhaps incorporating a flexibility program at the knee and hip, along with patella mobilization exercises may help decrese the clicking. Sorry I couldn't have been of more help."
