Our user asked: "Hi PTs and Physcians, Im reading about Dupuytren's contracture and i read one book says that, the affectation on diabetic patient are usually 3rd and 4th finger,on non diabetic are 4th and 5th..im wodering why,i searched the internet and im not satisfied..Thank you very much for your time!"

Ask a PT Response: "This condition is most often treated by occupational therapists. I had the opportunity to discuss your question with a certified hand therapist and she stated that she was not familiar with the fact that individuals who had diabetes were more prone to have digits III & IV of the hand affected. She reports it is most common to have this condition occur in digits IV & V. She reported that individuals with diabetes are more prone to develop this condition and there are familial tendencies in developing this condition as well. She stated that many times the individuals in a family who have this condition would have the involvement in the same fingers. She stated she would be very interested in reviewing the book you found this information in. If you could email me the name of the book I can give her the information."
