Our user asked: "Hi there, About 2 months ago I fell off of my mountain bike and I landed on both of my hands. Since then, my left wrist hasn't been 100%. I had an xray the 2nd day and it was negative for any broken bones. My wrist has gradually gotten better. But now It's only when I work out (bench press) my wrist feels like there is resistance and I feel tenderness on a ligament. Do I need to stretch it? what should I do? Thanks"

Ask a PT Response: "Although you might not have sustained any fractures at your wrist or hand, you may have sustained a wrist sprain. The ligament(s) in your wrist may have become stretched out or sprained which could result in some instability at the wrist. For my patients that have this condition, I would have them focus on gentle stretching along with strengthening/stabilization exercises. I will usually tell them to let pain be their guide. If they experience pain than they need to back off, and if they continue to experience pain they need to stop performing the exercise. If your condition fails to improve it may be a good idea to consult with a PT or orthopaedic doctor. Best of luck to you."
