Our user asked: "I need help!!! I have these sharp and very uncomfortable pains in both sides of my groin area. I get them when I lie down to go to sleep and slide one of my knees toward my body (my legs are shaped like a "4"). I also get them when after I play basketball. I try to stretch my groin but the pain is just too excruciating and I barely get a stretch if any at all. I've tried resting for about 2 weeks but the pain seems to come back every time. You know some people say "pain is weakness leaving the body," but stretches like the splits with the towel shown in this video seem IMPOSSIBLE for me. Can you guys infrom me on what this injury is and how can I prevent it. -Thanks"
Ask a PT Response: "Have you seen a PT yet? From what you describe you might need more than stretching the groin. Other muscles may aslo be involved ie. hip external rotators, etc. Manual therapy techniques such as joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, etc.. may be needed as well. Other areas the therapist may need to work on can include postural/functional training, strengthening, modalities, orhotics/bracing, etc. Without physically examining you, it would be difficult to determine what may be contributing to your condition and what plan of care should be performed. Best bet would probably be to see a PT. Best of luck to you."
