Ask a PT 156 Posts Ask a PT Response: "After a humeral fracture many people become guarded as a result of receiving hardware or a cast which limits range of motion. Often times as a result of immobility the muscles and tendons tighten up and also become weaker. It sounds like in your case, with your lack of elbow extension, that your biceps may have tighten up on you. Without physically being able to see your elbow and not knowing more about the surgery it would be hard to determine if you would be able to obtain more range of motion. I would recommend you consult with your surgeon for more information. Physical therapy can definitely help with your condition if appropriate. Physical therapists will be able to show you exercises & stretches and apply modalities to help you further gain range of motion and strength. Thank you for using CyberPT." |
