When I was seeing a PT for a back problem, he commented that he believed that my pelvis and hips developed (probably before birth) with my hip joints pointing in a more outward direction than most people. In other words, if I stand upright my right hip joint points more to the right and my left hip joint points more to the left.
At 58 I've come to realize that I'm missing some flexibility in my ability to squat so I'm looking up a program to develop that ability. Everything I've seen seems to ask the exerciser to point their feet straight forward. My feet have always felt more comfortable pointing slightly outward. Is there some crucial reason why my feet should point directly forward? Will I strain something if I allow my toes to rotate outward somewhat?
Thanks for any experience you might share.
