Our user asked: "I dislocated my ankle 6 years ago and still experience se pretty strong pain there. I completed PT after my surgery but everything is still tight and stiff down there and I experience a lot of dull aches and pains. What do you recommend I do for the pAin? Ice, heat , any specific treTments or creams. Any help is appreciated."
Ask a PT Response: "What kind of surgery did you undergo at your ankle? ORIF, ligament repair, fusion, etc???? With any type of surgery at the ankle it would be important to regain not only range of motion and strength but joint mobility at the ankle and foot as well. Various treatment options for a PT can include utilizing heat to help facilitate increasing tissue pliability and decreasing tissue irritability. Other treatment options can include stretching, joint mobilization techniques, soft tisue mobilization/myofascial release, strengthening, somatosensory/proprioceptive training, functional training, etc. "
