I am a PT rehab manager for a homecare agency in Virginia. I am wondering about the best type of wound care certification for P.T's in the homecare setting.

CWS is the gold standard and the only one that matters. The academic and experience requirements should say enough about it.

I would recommend getting certified through the American Academy of Wound Management http://www.aawm.org/index.html which is accredited. There are many other programs out there that claim to offer certification but are not accredited because they don't meet specific and stringent requirements.

Exactly, the AAWM is the agency that certifies you as a CWS...

This is correct. If you are going to get a certification, AAWM is really the only way to go. I actually know of someone who got a certification through another organization, and he had a lot of trouble finding employment. If you are not AAWM certified, most reputable practices will not even consider you. Regards Nancy Sprice ankle braces Edited by sprancy - Apr 19 2011 at 11:53am |
