Our user asked: "Hi, I was wondering if you could tell what is wrong with my calf when i run. I used to able to run with ease and pain free, but then i strained my left calf and dislocated my right knee. I took a break, the calf didn't heal for months. Now after a couple of weeks of running i can't run without a lot of pain in both calves, at some point my left foot and calf goes numb. What's happening?"
Ask a PT Response: "There could be a number of thngs going on. Without physically examining you, I would not be able to determine what is causing your symptoms. For my patients that may have sustained similiar injuries such as yours, I would have them work on not only increasing ankle/lower leg strength but knee strength as well. Any range of motion or flexibility deficits are addressed as well. Gait and running mechanics would also be analyzed and addressed. Since you have been dealing with this condition for quite awhile now, it may be a good idea to see a physical therapist so that he or she can determine what is contributing to your condition and develop a plan of care tailored to your specific needs. Best of luck to you."
