Our user asked: "We are currently a PCP that is hoping to expand our services by offering our patients physical therapy. I have a few questions regarding beginning a new practice: 1. If we are a PCP providing PT, can we charge the patient the usual co-pay for the PCP? 2. Does Texas Medicaid tend to pay for PT services? 3. What equipment would you recommend to start out with if our patient population consists of mostly diabetics, back injuries, joint pain, and Fibromyalgia?"

Ask a PT Response: "Co-pays will vary depending on insurance companies and health care disciplines, so you will have to obtain more information on this. Don't know what the TX medicaid laws are for PT reimbursement. You can get more info at http://www.hhsc.state.tx.us/medicaid/index.html.  I would suggest you contact the Private Practice Section of the APTA for additional information as well: http://www.ppsapta.org/ As far as equipment goes it will depend on what financial rsources are available. Getting input from your physical therapists who will be working for you would probably be best as they will be the ones working with the equipment. Otherwise here is a great article on slecting equipment: http://www.cyberpt.com/physicaltherapyequipment.asp"

The Dr my wife works for is thinking about adding a physical therapy center to his existing practice.  He has been debating of it will be worth the investment to build a top notch facility for the equipment it needs.  I'll show him the information you post and see if this will help him to make his decision easier.  We live in the Midwest so I'm sure the laws are different from state to state correct?
