Our user asked: "I don't know what I did to my arm. Afew years ago I was pitching a baseball game, and I felt intense pain in my bicep. Even after three yaers of not playing I went out this year, and my arm is still hurting. There is not any pain in my arm unless I'm pitching. I've had x-rays done and it all checks out fine. Please give me some advice. Thank you."

Ask a PT Response: "It sounds as though you may still have some type of injury in your arm. To completely and more accurately diagnose what is going on, you may need to see a Physical Therapist and/or your physician for further testing. An Xray picture will show a good picture of the major structures in your arm; a MRI picture shows greater detail of the soft tissues - ligaments, tendons, and muscles. It sounds as though you may have torn or stretched a soft tissue that is not completely healed. Or you may have damaged a structure within your shoulder joint, and the pain is referring down along your bicep area. At this point, I would recommend consulting a physician or a Physical Therapist, and ask him/her to perform a thorough evaluation. From your physical exam, you should receive more information regarding what structres are involved, and whether or not a MRI is needed. Also, a Physical Therapist will be able to prescribe specific exercises that will be helpful in getting you back to pitching, while keeping your arm healthy. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us."
