Our user asked: "I just completed 6 weeks of crutches and a knee brace for my recovery from medial meniscus and ACL repair surgery. I received the OK to stop wearing the brace and begin full weight bare. I am going to the beach this next week and wondered if getting into a boat to go salmon fishing would be too dangerous. Thanks!" Ask a PT Response: "There is alot of work involved in rehabilitating your knee after progressing away from your crutches and knee brace. Given the type of surgery involved, the time frame and your current status, I would advise strongly for you not to participate in activities such as boating which requires good stability and balance. Your knee is most likely unstable/weak and depsite wearing the knee brace could pose an increase risk of injury for not only yourself but others as well. You could try as an alternative fishing from a dock where the surface is more stable if you are still interested in fishing. Good luck with your rehab and thanks you for using CyberPT." |
