I get a sharp, hot pain in my butt, starting an inch or two on either side of the tailbone, then sometimes radiating horizontally toward the rectum. It is intense, very painful, lasting from 10 to 20 seconds. This happens several times a day. Between incidents, there is no discomfort, even with prodding. I have not been able to identify any contributing factor. It sometimes occurs while I am sleeping, waking me with the pain. It can happen sitting or standing, although usually sitting.
I would appreciate any insight into the cause and treatment. I am receiving chiropractic adjustments, which have not eliminated the symptoms. It does not seem to be sciatica, since the pain does not radiate down the leg at all. It is isolated in that particular region of my butt.
I am considering PRRT. Does that seem like a viable treatment?
Thank you for your help.

I was wondering if you were involved in an accident or fall which resulted in the onset of your pain?
