Our user asked: "My question is about my knee. Whenever I play basketball, do squats or even run I experience pain just above and below the knee cap. Last year I played basketball three times a week without any pain at all until the last two months when I started noticing that my knees were hurting. What is causing this pain and what can I do to eliminate the pain? Who should I see, if anyone to help me?"
Ask a PT Repsonse: "It could be a number of issues going on at your knee which could be contributing to your pain. Patellofemoral pain syndrome is one such condition. It is a common knee problem which is associated with pain under and around the knee cap. Exercises for strengthening and stretching the knee are usually prescibed for this condition. Without obtaining more information or being able to physically examine you, I would not be able to determine what is going on at your knee. It maybe beneficial for you to see a physical therapist to determine what is the cause of your pain and what you should do to correct and prevent it. Best of luck to you."
