Our user asked: "I am looking to break into the field of physical therapy (Physical therapy assistant), and would like to know exactly what NJ's education standards are for this profession as well the schools that offer associates degrees for it. Is the associate more important then the certification? Would you recommend a PT aide position as clinical exp? I know this is the direction I will persue careerwise, the information I'm reading pertains more to the PT's then the PT assts. in general and I am really just looking to find out exactly what my goals should be and when can I start them as soon as possible. Thanks in Advance"
Ask a PT Response:"You can learn more about the 3 PTA programs in New Jersey by visiting the APTA website: http://www.apta.org/AM/Template.cfm?section=PT_Programs&template=/aptaapps/accreditedschools/acc_schools_map.cfm&process=3&type=PTA#New%20Jersey . My best advise would be to contact each individual program to learn more about the requirements and specifics for each program. Once you have your associates degree as a PTA you can than pursue various certifications which may interest you. It is not a bad idea to get a job as a PT aide as this would most likely help with your experience. Best of luck to you."
