Our user asked: "Let me start off by saying I've been to two different doctors for this and they assured me it's nothing serious. But there is some sort of problem in my body I can't figure out. Over year ago I was running at the gym and got this weird tightening in the right/upper part of my chest. Naturally I was afraid it was heart related. At the time I was in relatively good shape and close to the best shape of my life. I got an EKG done and xrays and they said all looked fine. Then somethin similar happened, but this time my chest muscles seemed to vibrate (another type of spasm possibly). This time I got an ekg, chest xrays and blood testing done and all seemed okay again. Those episodes were about 6 months apart. I begin to suspect a problem with my muscles and a couple months passed and I had some neck and shoulder soreness. Finally the last few months I was feeling like I can go to the gym and these these symthoms have begun to decrease. Although a couple times a week my chest muscles with feel sensative or spasm. I even get a weird feeling which the muscles are like bubbling once every once in a while. There is never any pain involved. Either I am too intune with my body. or something is up. any ideas or tips? Seeing a specialist at this time is out of the question, because I just left the job I had since college and am only working a couple part times ones now."
Ask a PT Response: "I know it must be frustrating to you that all the medical tests performed were unremarkable and you don't knoe what is going on. Just wondering if they have ruled out neurological conditions such as MS or ALS? From your description it sounds like you may be experiencing fasciculations or twitching of the muscles. This can be normal in some cases and can occur as a result of overexertion (ie. exercise), stress or electrolyte imbalance (ie. magnesium, calcium, potassium, etc.). For individuals with fasciculations, rest, decreasing stress, and proper mineral intake is recommended. Sorry I couldn't have been of more assistance."
