Our user asked: "I am 5 months out of surgery from my meniscus repair in my right knee. I stopped going to PT about 2 months after surgery and I cross train 4 times a week. I had a question about my abilities to jump and run. I still get pain in my knee in certain movements, such as, being on my toes. I have not ran or jumped due to sharp pains in my knee. Usually, after I work out, my knee is sore which results in a minor limp. Regardless of training or not, I have difficulty going up and down stairs. I get a sharp pain. Any help with be greatly appreciated. Thank you"

Ask a PT Response: "Have you been back to the surgeon to make sure the meniscus is intact and that the repair hasn't been compromised. Meniscus function as shock absorbers for your knee, therefore running and other high impact activities will put added stresses on it. Keeping the muscles around the knee (hamstring & quads) and ankle along with the hips/core as crucial to distributing forces through the leg (kinetic chain). If you conitnue to experience pain, it may be a good idea to see the ortho again."
