Our user asked: "My left arm & left leg weak inspite of any exercises I can not seem to regain any strength. Here is my most urgent ? I do not have sufficient strength to curl my left arm with nothing in it. If I assist this movement with my right arm will this range of motion increase strength in time? I can actually do cable tricep extensions by myself with out assistance, I seem to be able to actually gain strength doing this exercise."

Ask a PT Response: "13 years is quite a long period of time where you did not have the active range of motion at your elbow. I would say it is not impossible. A research study http://www.webmd.com/stroke/news/20100416/limb-movement-regained-years-after-stroke - http://www.webmd.com/stroke/news/20100416/limb-movement-regained-years-after-stroke published in the The New England Journal of Medicine revealed positive results in regards to achieving strength and AROM after a long period following a stroke. I wish you the best of luck."
