Our user asked: "I tried to budge a boulder and felt something pop.I have pain along the leg and pubic attachments and an abdominal muscle band. I continued to work out lightly for about 10 days and realized I was making it worse. My family doctor found no bulges and issued me anti-inflamatories. Every time I feel improvement I move in a way that reinjures it. It has been 3 months, is there anything I can do to slowly rehab it?"

Ask a PT Response: "The symptoms you are describing are consistent with a sports hernia despite negative palpation for a bulge. My suggestion would be for you to consult with your MD to see if you can get a MRI performed to rule out a sports hernia. You mention you move in a way that that reinjures it. What is this movement? Quick movements, bending over, jumping, twisting, etc? Those are all movements which can exacerbate a sports hernia. As far as exercises, I suggest you consult with a PT. He or she will be better able to determine which exercises are appropriate for you after a thorough examination. Usually a PT will prescribe gentle strengthening exercises such as isometric abdominal contractions and some stretching exercises if appropriate. You have been dealing with this for 3 months now and been taking your anti-inflammatories and have not made significant gains. I definitely think further medical attention is warranted. Good luck and thanks for using CyberPT."
