Our user asked: "I am currently being treated by a chiropractor using a in home traction machine for a slightly bulging disc which is pressing on my thecal sac which has improved with treament: my symptomes were pain down my left arm and hand, etc. i havent had those symptoms hardsy since treatment, onec in a while it does flair up , is massage a good thing for me also as a treatment option, and do i ask my chiropractor on this or find a pt on my own?"

Ask a PT Response: "Massage or soft tissue mobilization could be performed if the muscles in your neck/shoulder are involved and have increase tension or marked tenderness. Massage/soft tissue mobilization can help decrease tension and tissue irritability. I'd recommend you consult with your chiropractor and get his or her thoughts on this as your chiropractor is already familiar with your condition. As far as finding a PT goes, perhaps your chiropractor may be able to recommend someone that he or she works with closely. I find good communication between various disciplines often results in a more effective and faster recovery for a patient."
