I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what the fukuda march test is? I tried searching on Google and Yahoo but came up empty handed. Thanks.

Fukuda Stepping Test
Patient Instructions: "Raise your arms to 90deg, close your eyes and march in place for 50 steps (counting to your self). Try to stay in place"

Considerations:
1) Mark two concentric circles (.5 & 1 meter radii) with 15deg subdivisions
2) Patient must close eyes
3) Shoulders are flexed to 90deg
4) Examiner must not speak during test
5) Room lights sould be dimmed
6) Demonstrate the task first
7) Have patient give return demonstration with eyes open to make sure they understand the task
8) Closely guard the patient
9) Testing is stopped if the patient loses their balance
10) Musculoskeletal or neurological impairments of the UE/LE's may affect this test

Normal Population: Variable results are seen in normal subjects, many walk forward
Abnormal Findings: Greater than 30deg rotation left/right during 50 steps. Patients with unilateral lesions tend to deviate to one side. Patients with central lesions tend to deviate side to side in large excursions.
