Our user asked: "Hello, My sister-in-law has a sever case of artheritus. She can barely get around with the use of crutches. She is 69 years old and lives by herself. She has resently developed a problem getting out of bed. She can no longer raise from a lying to a sitting posistion. A hospital bed will not work. She needs a device that she can hold on to the will raise her slowly. She can hold onto a cloth strap and be pulled to an upright posistion. But there is no one there to pull her. So she needs an electrical device she can control the speed and start and stop to raise her to a sitting posistion. I have been searching the internet with no seccuss. Has anyone there have any ideas? Thanks for your time."

Ask a PT Response: "Have you tried a triangle over the bed? A bar is attached to the bed from one end to the other. Otherwise are you referring to a hoyer lift as far as the machine utilized to transfer patients from bed<>chair?
