Our user asked: "I have been riding a stationery recumbent bike for about 6 months. I do 30 minutes at a moderate rate 5 days a week with moderate resistance. I have a mildly herniated disc, and osteo arthritis in my sacrum joint. This week I am having problems with my sciatic nerve which I have had problems with off and on most of my adult life. I am 59 years old and am in good health. What recommendations do you have on the lenght of time I ride my bike?"

Ask a PT Response: "What I usually tell my patients is to exercise to tolerance. If my patient can tolerate biking for 15 min but would like to exercise for 30 min than I would have my patients break it up and have my patient bike two 15 minute increments to total 30min. Good luck."
