Our user asked: "I have worked out for years. Almost a year ago I noticed a tightness in my upper thigh and it has progressively gotton worse. I have eased off all leg exercises and only walk slowly on treadmill. I don't remember how or when the 'injury' happened but it is not gone yet. Does a tear or rip or something like that stay with you that long? Help. I want to work out again."

Ask a PT Response: "Tightness in the upper thigh could involve a variety of muscles including quadriceps, iliopsoas, sartorius, etc. A rip or tear of a muscle would usually result in pain and tenderness. Since your condition has been progressively worsening, it may be a good idea to consult with your MD or a PT to determine what may be causing this and to obtain a plan of care. A PT will be able to determine which muscles are involved and prescribe the appropriate exercise for your condition. Best of luck."
