Our user asked: "I am looking for a program or college that thas the PTA program. Would you hire a person with a PTAid or a PTAssistant diploma? If yes about how much would you pay them?"

Ask a PT Response: "You can find a list of accredited PTA programs at: http://www.apta.org/AM/Template.cfm?section=PT_Programs&template=/aptaapps/accreditedschools/acc_schools_map.cfm&process=3&type=PTA - http://www.apta.org/AM/Template.cfm?section=PT_Programs&template=/aptaapps/accreditedschools/acc_schools_map.cfm&process=3&type=PTA

As far as hiring a PTA vs. a PT Aide, it would depend on the needs of an organization. A PTA possesses a two year associates degree and is licensed while a PT Aide doesn’t require a degree. A PTA is able to treat patient’s under the supervision of a PT, while a PT Aide is not allowed to treat patients. A PT Aide is allowed to assist a PT when needed ie. setting up equipment, assisting with whirlpools, assisting with gait etc.

A PTA will make more than a PT Aide. You can check http://www.salary.com - www.salary.com to get an ideal of wages in a certain area. For example, according to salary.com PTA’s in Atlanta, GA can make on average anywhere from $32,644-$48,484. Of course, location, experience and setting will be factors as well. PT Aides can make on average anywhere from $19,232-$31,865 in Atlanta. I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact us should you have any additional questions."
