Our user asked: "i had an acute rupture in my right leg.7 n half weeks post op..my doctor said no pt was needed m that i should be walking.is this true what shouldi b doing?"

Ask a PT Response: "Surgeons have varying views in regards to having their patients participate in physical therapy after a surgery such as an achilles tendon repair. As a physical therapist, I guess you can say I am biased in regards to having patients participate in physical therapy after surgery. My colleagues and myself believe physical therapy will help patient's recover and return to function faster while minimizing limitations. Some examples of exercise progression for a patient who has had achilles tendon repair can be found on our protocols page: http://www.cyberpt.com/cyberptprotocols.asp - http://www.cyberpt.com/cyberptprotocols.asp . Please keep in mind that these protocols are surgeon specific and may vary upon surgeons. Therefore, with any exercise program you should check with the surgeon who performed your surgery to determine what exercises and progression of exercises should be performed. I hope this helps."
