Our user asked: "I just had a cortisone shot yesterday and am wondering how long and what type of work out (if any) I should be doing .? someone told me to get some resistance bands and start slow but this problem lasted 5 mths so I want to know exactly how to proceed. Please I need your help."

Ask a PT Response: "I often instruct patients of mine who have received a cortisone injection for tendonitis at the elbow to take it easy. They are instructed to avoid activities which usually may flare up their condition. I will usually have them perform gentle stretching of the wrist and forearm muscles along with some gentle strengthening of muscles which I found weakenss in during the evaluation. Gentle strengtheing usuallly would include isometrics, light hand weights or low resitive tubing. If any of these exercises increase the pain, I will have them either back off from the exericse or cease performing the exercise. Best of luck with your recovery."
