Our user asked: "Hi I am 20 year's old I stand Aproximently 5,7 to 5,8 my weight is 116 pounds. I am a naturally thin person, I suffer from a mild stroke affecting my left side of my body, I had the stroke on my right side of my brain but it so happened to affect the left side causing my let side to be weaker smaller and really lacking cordination. I can still do normal activitys it's just alot harder for me to do so I can't fully move my left arm meaning I can't fully turn my left arm like i can my right my left arm can not fully turn to where i can see my palm it stops half waay and is stiff at times, when it comes to my cordination I lack corndination on my left side. I had my stroke before birth had done physical sessions but stoped at an early age 4 ever since then I had trouble with everything I have gotten weaker my right side which I use the most is alot stronger and seems like there is no ending to stop using my right side I try to focus on using my left side more ofthen but alway's end up with my right. I smoked cigarretes at age 15 till 20 year's quit 1 month ago, I use to take sleeping med's don't anymore quit a month ago I use to eat unhealty I don't quit a mounth ago. ,my question is even with my condition if I work at it and get taught how to eat properly is there a way where I can get back to normal if not close to normal I quit all my bad habbits for a chance to be healthy. I would go see a P.T. or doctor but don't have a realible resource to do so niether insurance or money."
Ask a PT Response: "It sounds like you are taking the right steps as far as making changes in your life in order to live a more healthy life. As far as achieving improvements with your left side, given what you describe it may be possible. However, without knowing additional information and physically examining you, I am unable to give you a prognosis. I know you mention you don't have insurance or money, but I think it would probably be worth your while to see a PT that specializes in Neuro at least for one visit so that you can obtain more direction as far as what you should be doing. Sorry I could not have been of more help."
