Our user asked: "I recently had an anterior tibial tendon repair. 8/19/11. I still don't have complete ROM.. but I do now have some metarsalgia which I did not have before.. My MD explained how limited dorsiflexion can cause this but I forgot. Can someone explain why limited DF contributes to Metarsalgia and whether I will go away when I achieve an improved ROM Thank you"

Ask a PT Response: "With limited DF ROM you are not able to bring your foot up as much with initial contact during gait, which would result in additional stresses at the ball of your feet, therefore possibly contributing to metatarsalgia. It should get better once your ROM, strength and gait pattern improve."
