Our user asked: "Hi I recently worked with PTs and received exercises to help stretch my tight hamstring. One in particular is laying on my back slightly arched and stretching with a towel. After a few days of stretching I had very painful shin splints in the leg that needs extra attention. Could that have been a result overstretching? Thank you!"

Ask a PT Response: "I don't believe stretching your hamstring would contribute to your shin splints. It is most likely a result of something else ie. gait mechanics, functional demands, joint mobility, etc. Check with your PT and see what he or she thinks."
